A single pendulum is an object which
can swing freely around an axis which
does not pass through its centre of
gravity (like the pendulum in an old
clock, a fairground swing, etc.).

Two pendulums are said to be coupled
if a relationship exists between them
that causes the movement of one to act
on the other.
