The Cité des Métiers enables visitors of every age, level of qualification and region to choose a sector, find a job, change their career, start their own business or find a training course.

Anonymously and without appointment, the public as a whole can talk to advisors, freely consult multimedia or written resources and meet professionals at regular events.

The Cité des Métier's operation is based on the complementary skills of partners specialised in working life.

  Cités des Métiers in your country, your region

The area for information and advice on working life created within the Paris - La Villette Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie in 1993 has inspired other experiments that have now been "quality-labelled". Several of these now exist in France and other countries and have recently formed a network.

A "Cité des Métiers" can help you :

  • find information about careers, training courses, the labour market and corporate organisation using a wide range of hard-copy or multimedia tools;
  • understand and anticipate developments in business sectors and the employment they provide by arranging face-to-face meetings with professionals in workshops, forums and conferences;
  • choose the service that suits you, comparing opinions and combining complementary insights provided by a range of specialists.

  • How do you become a "Cité des Métiers"?

    The identity of these areas is established by six criteria that form the Cité des Métiers quality-label.

    This label has been registered by the Paris-La Villette Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie. A committee certifies the label-compliance of platforms satisfying six criteria:

      Areas must be:

  • open to visitors whatever their age, social and professional category, home region, etc.;
  • multi-thematic, i.e. devoted to all business sectors and all concerns of a professional nature;
  • multiple-use, i.e. based on interaction between advice - resources - meetings with professionals;
  • multi-partnership in financial and operational terms;
  • focused on user needs whose expression (exercised in conditions of anonymity) validates the organisation of services and resources, as well as their relevancy;
  • accessible without restriction (so free of charge) by independent consultation with no appointment or registration required.

    This quality-label has been registered by its owner, the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie. It is issued by a labelling committee chaired by the CSI and made up of national representatives of partner institutions in working life and Cités des Métiers that have already been created.
