6 sections - 31 hands-on
exhibits
Investigating the animal and plant kingdoms in games, the children
discover how highly organised our ecosystems are. They learn
to identify different species and, at the same time, find out
about the role we must play in maintaining natural equilibria. |

| The ant hill |
|
| |
Put your head into an ant hill! Come
and see how ants live; watch their behaviour, from the queen
to the worker!
All the work that goes on in an ant hill is geared to the needs
of reproduction, food supply and the defence of the colony.
From Queen to worker, each ant has a role to play, which changes
with age, the cycle of the seasons and events that change the
course of life in the colony. |

| The ants' path |
|
| |
Ants move in single file
and never seem to lose their way. That is because they always
follow the same paths. To mark them, they leave behind a trace
of scent. The smell differs according to species: the Lasius
ant's odour is quite like citronella. |

| Little creatures |
|
| |
Insect, myriapod or arachnid?
Children have to place fifteen little creatures in these three
categories. Each time they give a correct answer, the windows
light up. |

| Cross-section of the pond |
|
| |
The pond, a commonplace
stretch of water, is not lifeless. Quite the contrary.
Attracted by the smell of moss and the croaking and rustling
in the reeds, the children discover a world teeming with life.
Each corner of the pond shelters a plant or animal that is trying
to occupy the available space. Often prey hides to escape its
predator. |

|
|
| How do they get through
the winter? |
|
| |
The children observe animals
in a pond in summer. Turning the strips, they see them in winter
and find out that each one has its own way of handling the cold. |

| The butterfly farm |
|
| |
Share the life of the
butterflies in a real greenhouse!
Beautiful, fragile butterflies live among the plants. During
their lives, they go through some amazing transformations.
Strolling among the butterflies flitting freely, you will see
caterpillars eating leaves and sometimes butterflies emerging
from their chrysalises.

| What'll come out? |
|
| |
What animal will come
out of this egg: an owl or an alligator? What plant will grow
from this seed? Raising the flaps, the children see the different
cycles of animal and plant life. |
