To navigate more easily through our site, you should be aware of the
following important points:

The color of the links
The browsers
Screen resolution
The plug-ins
Languages used
Tool box
Bookmarks
Optimise video viewing

The colours of the links
The links to click on in the text area BLUE and underlined.
The links you have already visited in the text are
PURPLE and underlined.

Browsers
The site has been optimised for navigators that are version 4 or later, now standard. We strongly advise you, therefore, to download the latest version of the Netscape or Microsoft navigator.

To download the latest version of the Netscape navigator,
click on the icon below
Netscape

To download the latest version of the Microsoft navigator,
click on the icon below
Internet Explorer

Screen resolution
The site is optimised for a 800*600 screen resolution, which means that the pages making it up are programmed to be spread over a certain area. If horizontal or vertical scroll bars appear, this probably indicates that your screen resolution is less than required (e.g. 640*480).
To solve this problem, you will have to configure your computer, if this is possible, so that it changes your screen resolution.
Click here for more detailed help.

If your screen resolution cannot be changed, you will not be able to visit the site in the best possible conditions, and you will have to use the scroll bars. Rest assured, however, that we have deliberately displayed the most important information in the area which will be immediately visible to you.

Plug-ins
Some of the services on our site (such as the Video encyclopaedia) require "plug-ins", which are small, supplementary programs that increase your navigator's capacity. For instance, they allow you to access video programs, to make virtual tours of the Cité des Sciences, or to enjoy sophisticated live events called "Flashes".

If you try to use these services although you do not have the plug-ins required, a special window will display on your screen and suggest you download the said plug-in.
You can even download them now by clicking here. This short operation will make life on the Internet so much simpler afterwards!

Languages used
Some services on the site - especially in web cité - are written in a language called Java. This language is understood by navigators that are generation 4 and later. If you have one of these navigators, but still cannot access these services, click here.

If your navigator is not at least a version 4, you will not, unfortunately, be able to access these services. So download the latest version of the Netscape or Microsoft navigator now, by clicking here.

Another programming language used on the site is Javascript. It would be best if you could properly use the practical benefits it brings. Click here to find out more.

Tool box
To find your way more easily and have more fun, remember you have a tool box, permanently displayed on all the pages of the site, at the top right:

img1

- the Site map gives direct access to a precise page

- the Search function is useful for finding the information you want

- with the Write to us function, you can send an e-mail to someone at the Cité des Sciences

bookmarks
Just as for books, a navigator bookmark is a way of marking a page in the site, so that you can come back directly, without having to navigate through the site again.

We strongly recommend, then, that you add these bookmarks to be able to look up your favourite pages more easily.

If you do not know how to add a bookmark, click here.

Optimise video viewing

To get the most out of playing the video programs, you should check that the number of colours selected for on-screen displays is set at the highest possible number.
