Our mission

Les missions d'universcience

The mission of universcience is to make science and technology accessible to all. A public institution, it is a flagship of excellence for science culture.

To achieve this goal, it follows a number of policies:

1. universcience encourages dialogue between research, science and society. It offers visitors of all kinds the tools to understand the challenges of scientific research and innovation in society and follow the corresponding debates. It runs forums where the public can meet key figures in research and industry, and presents the latest developments in science and technology. It encourages media coverage of research and innovation, and provides scientists and researchers with its expertise in their work of presenting research to the public.

2. universcience promotes a scientific approach, stimulates the curiosity of young visitors by introducing them to scientific experimentation, and encourages them to choose careers in science and technology. It provides information on jobs and courses, develops educational tools, and helps to train teachers and trainers. It contributes to science teaching in schools by providing a wide range of documentary resources and services.

3. universcience helps to disseminate the culture of science and technology at both national and international levels by participating in networks and creating partnerships with other players in this field. To this end, it develops links with universities, research bodies and innovative companies, as well as with other science centres in France, Europe and around the world. In this way it makes a significant contribution to European science culture.

4. universcience contributes to and reports on scientific research in the fields of history of science and technology, museology, science and society, and science and art.

To accomplish these missions, universcience draws on the complementarity and extensive experience of its two component institutions.

The mission of universcience forms part of the national strategy for sustainable development enshrined in law.
